Do you like waffles?
Waffles have been loved and popular in Europe, especially in Belgium since ancient times. So are they in Japan – especially among teens or women.
However, do you know that waffles taste best when freshly baked?
The surface is crispy and the sugar smells savory, which is a very tempting smell. You cannot have this crispness in pre-made waffles. Once you experience its supreme taste, you can never eat normal waffles again.
Today we are going to introduce a homemade waffle recipe.
Equipment
To make waffles, you need a bowl, spatula, etc., and a waffle iron is essential. The other tools can be replaced, but you can’t make it without a waffle iron. If you are a big fan of waffles, you should get one.
Next, let’s see the ingredients we need.
Ingredients (for 5 to 6 waffles)
- 80g of cake flour
- 80g of bread flour
- 1 tsp of dry yeast
- 2 tbsp of sugar
- 1g of salt
- 1 egg
- 1/2 tsp of vanilla extract
- 50ml of milk
- 50g of unsalted butter
- 40g of pearl sugar
※Beat the egg, and let it back to room temperature.
※Warm the milk to skin temperature.
How to cook
1. Mix the flour
Mix all flour, sugar and salt in a bowl.
2. Add milk and dry yeast
Make a dent in the middle of the flour and pour the milk with dry yeast resolved.
3. Add the beaten egg and vanilla extract
Add the beaten egg and vanilla extract to the flour and mix.
4. Add butter
Add unsalted butter and mix with a scraper.
5. Knead the dough
Knead the dough on a board until it no longer sticks. When it gets elastic, strike it down to the board.
6. Add pearl sugar
When the dough gets smooth, slightly widen it and wrap pearl sugar in it.
7. Mix the pearl sugar
Mix the pearl sugar and dough, and knead the entire dough.
8. First fermentation
When all get mixed well, put the dough all together back in a bowl. Cover the bowl with plastic wrap and leave it to ferment for about 40 mins.
9. Divide and round the dough
After fermentation, press and spread the dough (as if remove the gas inside) and divide into 6 equal portions.
10. Second fermentation
Put a sheet of parchment paper on a baking tray and place the dough portions with the same intervals. Softly cover the tray with a plastic wrap and leave it to ferment for about 20 mins.
11. Bake the dough on one side.
Pre-heat the waffle iron and spread butter (not included in the ingredients above), put the dough there to bake for 3 mins over low heat.
12. Bake the other side
When the one side is cooked, turn the waffle iron over and bake the other side for another 3 mins. When it becomes golden brown, it's ready to eat!
