Yasuda Kawara (roof tile brand) has about 200 years history.
It was traditionally used for building materials. However, Marumi Kawara Kougyou Corporation redeveloped it as tableware with long established techniques and knowhow, and released TSUKI and YUKI series.
Their sophisticated design, functionality and texture are good for presenting special food. Today we would like to introduce TSUKI and YUKI series from Marumi Kawara Kougyou.
TSUKI and YUKI series of Yasuda Kawara
TSUKI and YUKI series are made with ”Reduction Firing Method”, in which they are fired at 1200℃ or higher. Yasuda Kawara, which were originally used as roof tiles in cold regions, has high heat/cold/water resistance and less water absorbency. Also, it features stylish design with unique iron color. Also, it has either practicality and stylish design.
Features of TSUKI
“TSUKI” means the moon in Japanese. With unique iron color and wrinkles that are individually made by professionally and look like lunar surface, they were named TSUKI.
TSUKI features the imposing iron color, and it is often used when serving colorful dishes or main dishes to draw attention. The surface is uneven to prevent food slipping.
TSUKI series include bowls, plates, cups, etc. With both modernity and good old Japanese atmosphere, TSUKI will match various kinds of dishes, not only Japanese cuisine.
Features of YUKI
“YUKI” means snow in Japanese. As shown in its name, the concept is snow falling on the roof tiles. The major difference from TSUKI is that YUKI is designed with 2 colors – iron gray outside and white inside. You can describe your own picture with food on the plate as if you are drawing on a canvas.
YUKI series include different shapes of plate (flat plate, oval flat plate, etc.), and either of them is good for serving dishes with deep or vivid color sauce. The plates will help food look more beautiful and delicious.
Use & Care
No special care is needed. Same as glassware, Kawara tableware should be washed gently with neutral detergent and sponge. It is compatible with dishwashers but NOT with microwaves as its surface glaze contains iron.
